Pastor Roy Gaton, DMin., was born on October 11th in Puerto Rico of Dominican parents. At eight years of age, he was baptized and was already preaching. His father got him involved in ministry and made it fun. While his father was overseeing several churches – over a vast distance, young Roy would often travel with him. By 13, he was an ordained Elder. In 1982 Roy’s parents moved from Puerto Rico to Michigan were his father served as Senior Pastor for the Grand Rapids Spanish Church. In 1985 Roy’s family moved to Berrien Springs, Michigan, were Roy graduated from Andrews Academy. At 19, Pastor Gaton married Lois Padilla, his childhood friend and sweetheart.
He received a BA with double majors in Theology and Spanish Literature and a Master in Divinity from Andrews University. Subsequently, he received his Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Care & Counseling. After completing a clinical internship and a Clinical Pastoral Residency he moved to California to serve as Senior Chaplain at Glendale Adventist Medical Center and as adjuct professor of Religion & Psychology at Loma Linda University & Loma Linda Univ. Medical School.
Dr. Gaton also had the distinction of serving as chaplain for the Glendale Police Department (Glendale, CA) & the Los Angeles Dodgers (Major League Baseball) (Los Angeles, CA).
Lois, who holds a degree in Education, currently home schools their children. He holds black belts in Taekwondo and American Kenpo Karate, and a purple belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Pastor Gaton also plays baseball and volleyball, and enjoys traveling with his family.
He brings much enthusiasm and a passion for the community as a counselor in the areas of marriage & family, spirituality and success and leadership. Pastor Gaton also serves as Director of Pastoral Care at Doctors Hospital (Baptist Health South Florida).
